Details
A 'gateway' wine - a gentle entry into the world of skin contact 'orange' wines. This is a mash up of Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and Traminer, with the juice left to rest on the grape skins for just over a week. This lends colour, texture and loads of tropical aromas and flavours. Peach, apricot and ginger abound. Get amongst it.

Funkstille is a German word meaning 'radio silence', and gives it name to this wine project in a nod to the peaceful, the serene and the uninterrupted. Not so much a metaphor for ignoring the world, but instead finding one's place in it and being comfortable with that, and not impacting others. This expresses itself in practical terms with the vineyards being sustainably certified by the local Austrian organics bureau... and how important it is to be sensitive in such wonderful surroundings! The vineyards are in the southern part of Kremstal, just north of the beautiful River Danube, whose powerful currents flow past the vines daily. Not only are the vines treated wonderfully, but this extends into the winery as well - they are energy-neutral, through a Biogas and photovoltaic system, literally turning the photosynthetic power of the vines and the warmth from fermentation into energy. It's almost a bonus that the wines are great too!

Pairing guide
We adore a chilled glass of skin contact wine with our meals, and not without good reason: it’s a stunning wine style for pairing with some of our favourite cuisines. We reckon this bottle is especially good with heartier salads featuring quinoa, brown rice or other grains, and will work very well with Middle Eastern and Georgian dishes with chickpeas, walnuts, coriander and chilli. Shellfish, pork chops, chicken thighs and barbecued sausages are always excellent here, and it’s also excellent with falafel, sabich, tabbouleh and other Mediterranean-inspired favourites.
