Details
This is a fairly bold take on Austrian Riesling - it's plump and slightly exotic, with plenty of mango and lime, pineapple and peach. There's a viscosity to the palate, interlaced with a spiderweb of mild acidity. The richness lends impact to the wine, and the flavours linger on the palate. Intriguing and delicious.

Funkstille is a German word meaning 'radio silence', and gives it name to this wine project in a nod to the peaceful, the serene and the uninterrupted. Not so much a metaphor for ignoring the world, but instead finding one's place in it and being comfortable with that, and not impacting others. This expresses itself in practical terms with the vineyards being sustainably certified by the local Austrian organics bureau... and how important it is to be sensitive in such wonderful surroundings! The vineyards are in the southern part of Kremstal, just north of the beautiful River Danube, whose powerful currents flow past the vines daily. Not only are the vines treated wonderfully, but this extends into the winery as well - they are energy-neutral, through a Biogas and photovoltaic system, literally turning the photosynthetic power of the vines and the warmth from fermentation into energy. It's almost a bonus that the wines are great too!

Pairing guide
This beautiful Riesling wine from Funkstille offers everything we love about this wine style and more! Balanced, bright and perfect for food pairing, it’s an excellent match with spicy and aromatic dishes from South East Asia and beyond. Coconut and lime leaf broths, green curry sauces, spicy seafood and tofu, Goan specialties, katsu dishes, sushi, sashimi… the list of exotic foods that are pitch-perfect for this bottle just goes on and on. It’s also excellent with chicken salads, green leafy vegetables, simple white fish and pasta dishes, and works very well with grilled pork with mustard, too!
