Details
A moderate gold in the glass, this is a powerful wine that retains freshness and succulence. Tangy, with pepper, radish and lentil flavours all hiding behind a big upfront whack of white peach and lemon. Dry and fresh, it shows more pear and grapefruit on the finish. Delicious.

Funkstille is a German word meaning 'radio silence', and gives it name to this wine project in a nod to the peaceful, the serene and the uninterrupted. Not so much a metaphor for ignoring the world, but instead finding one's place in it and being comfortable with that, and not impacting others. This expresses itself in practical terms with the vineyards being sustainably certified by the local Austrian organics bureau... and how important it is to be sensitive in such wonderful surroundings! The vineyards are in the southern part of Kremstal, just north of the beautiful River Danube, whose powerful currents flow past the vines daily. Not only are the vines treated wonderfully, but this extends into the winery as well - they are energy-neutral, through a Biogas and photovoltaic system, literally turning the photosyntetic power of the vines and the warmth from fermentation into energy. It's almost a bonus that the wines are great too!

Pairing guide
We just can’t get enough of this bright and zesty Grüner Veltliner from Funkstille, which provides no shortage of refreshing minerality and racy flavours. It’s the ideal match for southeast Asian food of all kinds: fiery tofu broths, chilli noodles, and Vietnamese summer rolls especially, but also Sichuan fish dishes, homemade sushi, and green curries, too. This wine is also fantastic with potato salads, breaded white meats and fish, and crisp green salads, making it a truly versatile and utterly irresistible bottle!
