Details
This juicy red blend of Tempranillo and Syrah is from certified organic dry-farmed vineyards in central Spain. It says a convincing, ‘hola!’, with red and blue fruit and liquorice aromas, and dusty pueblo streets after the rain. Soft and ripe with sunbaked fruit and savoury, tobacco and dried herb notes for complexity, and a lick of tannin to finish. ¡Vamos ya!

Origin: Rioja, in central-northern Spain. Mainly Grown In: All over Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and McLaren Vale and NE Victoria in Australia. Key Facts: Imagine taking the classic variety Tempranillo and darkening the fruit spectrum and polishing off some of the rustic edges. Making it whip smart, tightening things up and making it into a really flashy young thing? That's essentially what these blends are - they have the soul of Tempranillo, but they set off on a different path, a path that is equally delicious, just a little bit different. Loads of spicy, berry-fruit muskiness, tied up with mouth-filling tannins. Sometimes richer, sometimes lighter, always good drinking. Fun Fact: Tempranillo got its name from the word 'temprano', which means early. This is because the Tempranillo grape ripens earlier than many other Spanish grapes. It also makes it the perfect wine to open if you're a little early yourself and need to crack into a wine before 5pm.

Pairing guide
With organic vineyards covering Castilla’s finest appellations, it’s no wonder that Fontana Bodegas y Viñedos’ red blend has gained something of a cult status among Spanish wine fans. Perfectly balanced and with amazing expression, this is a wine destined to be paired with big smoky hunks of red meat, cooked over coals with little more than a sprinkle of salt and a rub of oil. Chargrilled eggplant, capsicum and zucchini would make for a great vegetarian alternative, and sides like polenta with sage and parmesan would also work nicely. It’s also a top wine for pairing with braises, stews, and bean-based dishes, and Tex-Mex classics would also work well.

Wine region
Uclés, Spain
Uclés is a wine region located in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha, 100km east of Spain’s capital city, Madrid. Although the Uclés is dominated by larger producers, making mostly simple fruity styles of Tempranillo and Verdejo, the region shows lots of potential for its high elevation (up to 900m above sea level) and dry conditions, ideal for premium grape growing. The soils in Uclés are primarily composed of clay and limestone, which provide good drainage and help the grapes ripen to optimal maturity. The region also has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters, which helps to produce wines with good acidity and complex flavours. Some of the well-known wineries in the region include Bodegas y Viñedos Uclés, Bodegas y Viñedos Real de Aragón, and Bodega San Isidro. The Uclés region is known for producing high-quality exceptional value red wines made from the Tempranillo (known locally as Cencibel), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Garnacha and whites including Verdejo, Chardonnay, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, Sauvignon blanc, and Macabeo. We expect bright future for this region.
