The first thing that sets this superb, and wonderfully graceful Pinot Noir in motion is the gorgeous, vibrant colour that screams ENERGY! The nose and palate continue the energetic theme with baking spices and sour cherries in abundance and a hint of raspberries. There is a line of fine tannin that wraps around the fruit perfectly.
Lisa and Justin Jenkins of Fleet Wines have a clear idea of what makes an alluring wine, loaded with charisma. With over thirty years of combined hospitality experience in some of Melbourne’s best wine bars and restaurants, they’ve tasted some of the world’s best wines, and with this in mind, they turned their hands to winemaking. At the core of their wines are flavour, texture and enjoyment. In 2016, the couple returned to South Gippsland where Justin grew up, to make wine. The name Fleet is born from the couple’s openness in sourcing grapes from further afield. Working with tiny amounts, these wines are celebrated for being of the moment, and speak of both place and variety. Each wine captures a ‘fleeting’ moment in time, made by two intrinsic wine and food pros chasing flavour and vibrancy. Each Fleet release is exciting, and often a little unpredictable… What is always guaranteed is that the wines will be deliciously pure and fun, and over-deliver on personality!

Light in body yet packed full of flavour, this charming Pinot Noir is a real crowd-pleaser of a wine with mountains of charm and no shortage of versatility. We especially enjoyed it with juicy cuts of duck or lamb, although the delicacy here demands that you avoid strong flavoured meat. It’s also superb with mushroom dishes, beetroot risotto, brown rice with Caribbean flavours and even heartier dishes of roast salmon. Delicious!

Gippsland, Australia
The Gippsland wine region is so big it is its own zone and region. The region stretches from Victoria’s high country in the north to Bass Strait in the south, and it occupies 400km of coastline from the east of Melbourne to stretching eastward to the VIC/NSW border. The hero varieties in the region are unmistakably Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Gippsland is mainly flat, with complex weather systems and many microclimates throughout. The climate is mild in West Gippsland (close to Melbourne), with a warm, dry autumn. East Gippsland has a cool, semi-maritime climate with low rainfall, while South Gippsland is cooler still, with strong maritime influences in Bass Strait.
Gippsland vineyards are predominantly small family-owned vineyards and wineries. Bass Phillip is one of the original flagbearers for the region, but a new generation has emerged, pushing the boundaries and producing highly sought small-batch wines. Some producers to look out for are Entropy Wines, Momento Mori, Patrick Sullivan, William Downie, and Xavier Goodridge.
