Details
This unique blend sees Syrah and Nebbiolo from the Malakoff vineyard in the Pyrenees joined together in unholy matrimony. The spicy, pepper-soaked Syrah complements the high-toned kirsch and rose petal Nebbiolo aromatics to deliver something that is uniquely spicy, savoury, and tannic, yet juicy all the same, with super drinkability and a sense of fascination. What a win.

Some wineries are headed by those who seem to have inherited their skills from generations of winemakers. Others get there from raw talent, ambition, and a hell of a lot of hard work. The team behind Yarra Valley’s Fetherston Vintners definitely sit in the latter camp, and their dedication to exploring and experimenting with lesser-known varietals is more than paying off. Fetherston Vintners is run by Chris Lawrence, a former top chef with a serious commitment to flavour, and Camille Koll, who earned her stripes working for Domaine Chandon. Together, their hard-earned knowledge of grape varietals and flavour profiles combines to create something really rather special; a modern, dynamic Yarra Valley winery, unafraid to take risks and stick its neck out to get the results it deserves. If you haven’t yet discovered the fruits of Chris and Camille’s passion project, well... it’s high time you did something about it.

Pairing guide
This stunning blend of Syrah and Nebbiolo is quite the head-turner, with the combination of flavours giving a truly evocative experience. We love enjoying this beautiful red wine alongside big, rustic cuts of pork, hearty steaks like ribeye, and proper sausages full of texture and flavour. While it’s definitely a dream of a wine for meat lovers, we also reckon it’s a great pairing for wild mushrooms, tomato-based sauces for veggies, and traditional tomato pasta dishes, too.

Wine region
Pyrenees, Australia
The Pyrenees wine region is located in the state of Victoria in Australia. It is known for producing a range of high-quality red and white wines, particularly Shiraz and Chardonnay. The region is named after the Pyrenees mountain range, which forms its eastern boundary. The wine-growing area extends from the town of Avoca in the north to Moonambel in the south and is situated at an altitude of between 200 and 600 meters above sea level. The region's cool climate and diverse soil types are well-suited to grape growing and contribute to the unique character of the wines produced here. Cool fact: the region is home to the "Big Red," a life-sized sculpture of a red grape that serves as a popular photo spot for visitors to the area, so if you find yourself in the area, be sure to check it out!
