Details
From the excellent 2019 vintage, this Chianti Classico, from 100% Sangiovese fermented in stainless steel and aged in seasoned Slavonian oak casks with smaller barrels, sings with a mouth-watering perfume of dusty cherries, cranberries and vanilla. On the palate the sour cherry and cranberry fruit weight mingles with sanguine and savoury notes, balanced by bright acidity and tannin grip. Superb.
Fattoria di Fèlsina is not only one of the greatest producers of Chianti Classico, but can also lay claim to being one of the greatest estates in Italy. Founded in 1966 by Domenico Poggiali with his son Giuseppe and later joined by his son-in-law, also called Giuseppe, and then Giuseppe’s son, Giovanni representing the third generation, the estate has consistently received rave reviews for its Chianti Classico and Super Tuscan wines worldwide. Fèlsina has a strong focus on crafting excellent Chianti Classico, specifically in the Castelnuovo Berardenga district in the southeastern corner of the appellation, home to some of the more robust and powerful expressions of Sangiovese. Fèlsina is so respected because they allow the natural structure of their unique terroir to shine through in the wines, while also capturing the bright fruit nuances and soaring aromatics that only the best of Chianti Classico manages to deliver. And in top years the wines form a majestic marriage of elegance and power.
