Details
The Château Les Mailleries rosé is more of your serious, almost chilled red, version of rosé. Made from Merlot and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon, this would sit nicely alongside a winter stew as much as by a plate of ham and melon in the midst of summer. The wine has brambly red berries balanced with a touch of spice.

Fabien Castaing is a perfect example of a French winemaker who has grown up with grapes in his blood. Fabien’s family has been making wine in the Bergerac wine region since the end of the 19th century. Bergerac as a region at this time was still part of Bordeaux, however this has all changed now. The region lies inland of Bordeaux where you will find rolling hills and picturesque towns, and grossly undervalued wines that share the similar style and varieties to its big brother. The winery has two separate estates, Domaine De Moulin-Pouzy and Château Les Mailleries. Aside from making wine, Fabien also makes some extremely delicious Armagnac and Gin as well as grape juice for the kids. On the wine front, there are classic red blends made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, unique one off wines and some creative expressions of modern winemaking. We are thrilled to bring these wines to Aussie shores for the first time as well.

Pairing guide
Fabien Castaing knows his way around a rosé, and this bottle of blushing wine is a fabulous example of what the innovative team does best. It’s a stunning wine to pair with loads of picnic and al fresco dining classics; it works with pasta salads, anything with olives, anchovies, and sundried tomatoes, and with pork pies, chicken pastries, and charcuterie and strong cheeses. Made with plenty of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the mix, it’s going to be especially good with duck and lamb salads, tuna steaks and salmon fillets, and quiches featuring cheese, ham, and greens like broccoli.

Wine region
Bergerac, France
Bergerac is a wine region located in the South-West of France, just below the city of Bordeaux. The region itself is often dwarfed by that of its big brother, Bordeaux, however is still capable of producing exceptional wine. Bergerac utilises very similar grapes to that of Bordeaux, with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec all used in the blends of the region. The whites also follow the similar path with Sauvingon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle utilised. The region is located near the Dordogne River as well as the Atlantic Ocean which help provide a very maritime climate.
