Details
Drawn exclusively from the Matcheoss vineyard, which lies in the famous deep red soils of 'Grange country' in the western Barossa, this is a gloriously luscious, purple-fruited wine of lusciousness and hedonistic delight. Like all of the Eisenstone Barossa Shiraz, the winemaking formula here is very simple, with the juice fermented in small batches and matured in 50% new oak with no fining or filtration, making for a gloriously pure expression of western Barossa Valley Shiraz.
Eisenstone is the Barossan project of Stephen Cook, who has decided to make single-parish and single-vineyard Shiraz his singular focus. Drawing on some of the absolute finest plots from across the Barossa to showcase the diversity of this grape in one of its most famous regions. Stephen makes all the wines in a very similar way too, which really allows the character of different sites to shine through, especially when you're using grapes from ancient vineyards known for classic flavour expressions. Even the name is a homage to the old Barossan ways - Eisenstone combines the German word for iron and stone, in a nod to not just the vines grown in the rich ironstone soils, but the stone used by the original German settlers to build much of the famous Barossa buildings that still stand centuries later.

Pairing guide
Roll out your most meaty and hedonistic dishes because a gloriously bold Barossa Shiraz has landed! Steak, beef with mushrooms, roast lamb and smoked meats are an instantly smart choice with this bold red, with hearty mushroom and white bean dishes a fantastic vegan alternative. It's not just meat either, with the very rich flavours of this red even chunky enough to stand up to chocolate cake! For a surprising taste revelation, try this with a mild (no spice) creamy Indian curry or a Massaman, as the richness in both wine and dish work a treat!
