Details
A savoury expression of the variety, with subtle herbaceous notes and an oxidative leaning on the nose that carry onto the chewy phenolic palate with touches of oxidative salinity, and saline laced acidity with mealy almond husk and a faint impression of white stone fruit. Lots to discuss in every glass.
Eastern Peake was founded in 1983, by Norman Latta. Norm is a bit of a hero in Central Victoria, due to his pioneering ways and friendship with iconic winemaker Trevore Mast. Sadly, due to an accident, he had to give up winemaking when his son Owen was still a teenager. Young Owen didn't shirk, and threw himself into the task. Fast forward to today, and Owen is one of the most respected young winemakers in Australia, and the quality of his family winery is better than ever. The vineyard at Eastern Peake sits on a high plateau, 430 metres above sea level on the Great Dividing Range. It's planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and they source some local Shiraz. The vineyards were dry grown for almost 20 years until recently, when climate change changing the weather pattens, resulting in a lack of rain at the right time during the crucial moments of the season. This hasn't deterred the Lattas, still to this day a cohesive family unit, that are producing some of Victoria's best wines.

Pairing guide
You can’t help but be impressed by this delicious Chardonnay, which brings together grapes selected from no less than five superb Western Victoria vineyards. Rich, ripe and racy, it’s a superb bottle to bring out alongside coconut chicken dishes, grilled snapper or sushi platters, and it will also work very well with creamy pasta sauces (it’s a clear winner with mac ‘n’ cheese!), turkey curries and pork chops with lemon and herb crust. Roast poultry, chowders and other seafood soups, grilled prawns and salads with a yoghurt or cheese dressing will also provide excellent pairings to explore.
