Details
This zesty-fresh white is made from Mediterranean favourite Vermentino, a variety found most commonly in northern Italy and Sardinia, as well as the south of France. This version, from the Limestone Coast of South Australia, is authentic and honest - flavours of Meyer lemon, sea spray and almond, with a firm vein of acidity. Delicious!

Stretching along South Australia’s wild southern edge, the Limestone Coast is a landscape carved by time and sea. It's a place where ancient seabeds have risen to meet crisp ocean breezes. Beneath its rolling vineyards lies a foundation of porous limestone, naturally regulating moisture and feeding the vines with mineral-rich sustenance. Coupled with cool maritime influences and long, gentle ripening seasons, this terroir creates an ideal cradle for elegant, expressive wines. Here, nature itself seems to conspire in the making of something special. At GPD, we love this unheralded wine region. So much so, we decided that it's where we should look for high quality fruit to make one of our favourite Mediterranean varieties, Vermentino. Early Rider is a fresh, exuberant collection of wines, and this Vermentino is absolutely the highlight. Vermentino is a grape that can handle the heat of progressively warming vineyard sites across the globe, and is all about those tangy seaside vibes.

Pairing guide
It really was love at first sip when it came to tasting this zesty Vermentino from the Early Rider collection, and we just couldn’t get enough of its amazing food pairing potential. All that brightness and fresh acidity makes this wine a superb option for matching with white fish dishes, the simpler and fresher the better, and it’s going to be great with prawns and other slightly sweet seafood options, too. Vermentino is also a winning wine for vegetable dishes, especially those putting spinach or zucchini in the spotlight, and you’ll get great results from chicken or turkey breast salads, too.

Wine region
Limestone Coast, Australia
The Limestone Coast is a large wine zone in the south-east of South Australia which has six wine regions that comprise the Limestone Coast; Coonawarra, Mount Benson, Mount Gambier, Padthaway, Robe and Wrattonbully. The Limestone Coast is in a unique position with cool winds and ocean waters throughout the summer months thanks to an oceanic event called the Bonney Upwelling which helps keep the vineyards cool during the hot summer months. The Limestone Coast produces a wide range of quality wines from classic Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in Coonawarra to cool-climate varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Robe and Mount Gambier. It is truly a versatile area and one of the backbones of the Australian wine industry.
