Details
Wehlener Sonnenuhr is one of the most famous vineyards in the Mosel. This plot has such a sunny disposition that it features an ancient sundial (Wehlener Sonnenuhr means the sundial of Wehlen). Sun is important when you're trying to make ripe and powerful Riesling in a chilly region, and this incredibly powerful and concentrated dry Riesling is something else. It's instantly taut yet juicy, with a length that is just remarkable.

Dr. Loosen is a winemaker who might have more in common with Dr. Emmett from Back to the Future than he does with his Mosel wine-growing neighbours. A guy who has travelled more than everybody you know combined. He is an unstoppable creative with projects worldwide, all about his favourite subject - wine. Not just any wine, Ernie is a Riesling fanatic. An estate owner who believes 'a great wine comes from the head', and these wines are all about the expression of the soil and a wonderful abundance of sunshine-kissed fruits. Think bottled pure joy, from the bone-dry expressions to the wildest, richest Eiswein magic. One of the great characters, and with wonderfully charismatic wines to match.

Pairing guide
It's not hard to understand why this sort of German dry Riesling has become such a global hit - few other wines can manage to be so precise and minerally yet also have a lovely sort of limey fruit energy as well. We love this with dishes that introduce a citrus element to the recipe, with grilled, steamed or baked white fish, chicken schnitzel (German-style, naturally), sushi, chicken or cheese filo pasty options and any dish that is delicate, salty, and yet slightly creamy.

Wine region
Mosel, Germany
Mosel is arguably Germany's most famous wine region and is home to some of the best white wines on the talent made from the mighty Riesling grape variety. Here you will find some of the steepest vineyards in the world planted on the banks of the Mosel River, which plays a crucial role in ripening the grapes, acting as a mirror to reflect sunlight off the water back onto the steep, slate vineyards, warming up the soils and ripening the berries. Riesling is produced in a range of styles and sweetnesses here, from bone dry, to lusciously sweet. If you are in the market for world-class Riesling, then look no further than this stunning region.
