Details
Grüner Veltliner - known as Groo-Vee in the USA (presumably because they can’t twist their tongues around the original) - is an incredibly versatile variety. Something like a love child of dry Riesling and unoaked Chardonnay – acidity, peach, green apple and celery. This is juicy, crisp and driven by ripe citrus and finished with a little bit of peppery spice – a great introduction to this Austrian native.
Weingut Stadt Krems boasts more than 550 years of history, making it one of the oldest wine producers in the whole of Europe! Since July 2003 it has been managed by a young, innovative team directed by Fritz Miesbauer. Its flagship grape varieties are Riesling and Grüner Veltliner (they account for over 90% of their production). Fritz and the team cultivate 31 hectares of vineyards on the estate, whose holdings are exclusively on the best terraced locations around the city of Krems. Fritz Miesbauer came to the Kremstal having built a stellar reputation for himself at pioneering large winery Domäne Wachau, which he turned into one of the world's finest cooperative wineries. Since 2003, he and his progressive team have been taking Weingut Stadt Krems to a new level. Fritz is a leader and visionary, adept at motivating his team into delivering the best from these world-class vineyards! The wines continue to improve year on year, with succulent acidity and plenty of primary fruit characters.
