Details
What a beautiful rosé this is. There's a 'best of both worlds' feel here, with this lovely strawberry and raspberry fruit flourish, but also a little cool alpine herb sort of high-toned fragrance in a nod to the high altitude vineyard it comes from. Medium-bodied, with this lovely flourish of fruit and then a crisp finish, it's not hard to be addicted to pretty wines like this from Domaine Laguerre.
Sitting at 500m above the ancient village of Perpignan, not far from the French and Spanish border, lies Domaine Laguerre. Here, Éric and Corinne Laguerre work a 40ha plot that was Éric's family's property before he took over in 1999. Over the past three decades, the pair have embraced a natural wine production ethos, starting with a replanting of the whole vineyard, and then a move to full biodynamic certification. What sets these wines apart is the unique high-altitude terroir. You have to traverse steep roads through a mountain pass to reach the vineyards, which sit at a cool 500 metres above sea level: the highest in this part of Roussillon. The soils here are hard, all granite and quartz, and between the elevation and the famous "tramontane" winds, the whole feel is cooler and fresher. This allows Éric to harvest later in the year to get perfect ripeness while keeping that signature freshness and mineral tension. The whites from Domaine Laguerre, made from a smorgasbord of grapes covering everything from Grenache Blanc to Rolle (Vermentino) offer a beautiful mix of purity and weight, while the Grenache and Syrah-driven reds are powerful and complex without ever feeling heavy.

Pairing guide
There's this glorious, happy medium that great French rosé occupies, where the wines can be instantly generous and playful, yet at the same time so very fresh. This Domaine Laguerre release is exactly that, with enough bright fruit to be able to handle rustic SW French dishes like creamy chicken cassoulet, snails, cabbage and potato, hard cheeses and an array of richer seafood offerings. At the same time, it's delicate enough to work wonderfully with fresh salads, sushi, aromatic Vietnamese rolls and whatever fresh seafood you'd like to throw at it.

Wine region

Roussillon, France
The sunny Roussillon wine region, located in the southernmost part of France, is known for its bold and complex wines and fortifieds. The key varieties here are Grenache, Syrah, Merlot and Carignan in reds, while Grenache Blanc, Picpoul, and Roussanne are popular whites. As well as bold fruit-driven table wines, Roussillon produces notable fortified wines from Grenache and other local grape varieties in sub-regions Collioure, Banyuls, Rivesaltes, and Maury. Key wine producers in the region include Domaine Gauby, Domaine de la Rectorie, and Domaine Olivier Pithon. Beyond wine, visitors can also enjoy the region's stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and Mediterranean cuisine.
