To talk about the Cumulus vineyard is to talk about the region that it sits in - Orange. Their 508-hectare, high-altitude vineyard is one of the largest single-estate properties in New South Wales, and certainly the largest in the local region. Set across the rolling hills of Boomey, the vineyard continuously rises above and falls below the all-important 600 metres above sea-level mark, making it one of the few dual-appellation vineyards in Australia. (It is an unusual wine law that says that for a wine to be deemed as coming from the Orange region, it must be located above 600m above sea level!) Sitting upon ancient soil 600 metres above sea-level, Orange is the largest and highest cool-climate winemaking region in Australia. The cooler mornings at the Cumulus estate create ideal growing conditions resulting in intense, fruit forward wines. Their techniques have been honed over decades, and they now produce some of the most sought-after wines that are made in NSW.
