Details
This vineyard is over 30 years old, and produces super high quality fruit. Cinsault has a lower acidity than the other red varieties that the Cravens work with (Pinot Noir and Syrah), so they treat it carefully to keep it fresh. A powerful yet soft wine, with plenty of black cherry and plum, satin tannins and a pleasing crunchiness on the finish.
After the GPD wine team visited South Africa in 2018 to find exceptional wines to bring back to Australia, the most exciting discovery was finding an Australian making wine in Stellenbosch with his South African wife! This is Craven wines - unique expressions of special vineyards, made with care, nuance and craft. These are some of the most delicious wines we've tasted in a while. Craven is husband and wife, Mick & Jeanine. Mick is originally from Adelaide, and met his better half in 2007 while they were both working harvest in Sonoma, California. After bonding and then finishing their winemaking degrees, they decided to hit the road, see lots of things, work in lots of places and try and learn as much as possible from this massive wine world. Harvests in different regions in different countries eventually led them back to Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2011. They love this part of the world, and want nothing more than to express the area through their wines - letting the grapes do the talking....

Pairing guide
Coming out of the peerless Rustenhof vineyard of the superb Craven winery, this characterful and spicy Cinsault is a spectacular red that’s perfect for those seeking a wine to pair with bold flavours. We found it to be particularly good with Moroccan and North African cuisine; tagines, pilafs, and robust salads of red meat, grains and dried fruit, especially. Garlic and herb-crusted lamb, grilled zucchini and eggplant creations and braised red meats will also work like a charm.

Wine region

Stellenbosch, South Africa
Stellenbosch is one of South Africa’s premier wine regions, located in the Western Cape, outside Cape Town. In South Africa, wine regions are known as winelands. Stellenbosch means ‘town of oaks’ and its winemaking dates back to the 17th century. The mountainous terrain, good rainfall, deep well-drained soils and diversity of terroirs make this a sought-after viticultural area. The wineland itself is known for high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay as well as the local speciality, Pinotage.
