Details
The Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc from Coughlan Estate is a trip down memory lane for those who have spent time in Western Australia. A nice balance between the tropical fruit drive and basil and capsicum notes of the Sauvignon Blanc and lemon drive from the Semillon.
Coughlan Estate has been the hard work of Preeti and Brad Coughlan who bought the winery, eight years after discovering it as the former Barton Jones winery in Donnybrook. Donnybrook, aside from having a cracking bakery, is located in the heart of the Geographe wine region, which is quietly accumulating runs in the form of trophies while its neighbour, Margaret River, is conquering the world. The Coughlan family bought the winery in 2018, after years of plugging away on dusty mine sites and settling on a change of pace in the form of owning and running a winery. The wines from the estate are a lovely combination of red and white varieties, from classic Chardonnay and Shiraz to less common Zinfandel and even a straight Semillon. Preeti and Brad have a couple of expert winemakers involved in making the wines, Bruce Dukes from Domaine Naturaliste and Remi Guise from Tripe.Iscariot. Together, they have a lot of fun putting together some lovely wines for you to enjoy!

Pairing guide
Coughlan Estate have really excelled themselves with this stylish white blend, which brings together the classic duo of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. It’s the ideal seafood pairing white wine, and will match beautifully with crab and lobster dishes, clam or mussels pasta creations, and seared scallops with a dash of lemon juice. It’s also a great pairing for lemon chicken, breaded pork escalopes, and for risottos and pasta dishes featuring spring green vegetables, especially green beans and asparagus. Delicious!

Wine region

Geographe, Australia
Geographe is a wine region located in the South West region of Western Australia (40 minute’s drive Northeast of Margaret River). It has a Mediterranean-style climate with warm, dry summers and mild, winters, which is ideal for growing grapes. The soils are predominantly sandy loams, providing good drainage and nutrient levels for the vines, and some vineyards have access to the permanent water table 15m below.
It is known for producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz. Compared to nearby Margaret River, Cabernet Sauvignon from Geographe tends to have distinctly fine gain and lingering tannins. The region has seen a rapid growth of boutique producers in recent years, aided by its proximity to Geographe Bay, which is home to a world-class food and wine scene, but attractions like Busselton Jetty, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and gorgeous seascape panoramas.
