Details
Sometimes you pour a Pinot and you can almost tell that you'll love it just from looking at it. The way the light shines through it, the pale ruby redness of it... and then the smell confirms your hypothesis. Raspberry, pomegranate, damp leaves, redcurrant, bluebells... all the good stuff. This is one of those wines! Soft, satiny texture and plenty of lovely fruit. A real charmer.

Combes Wines is the tale of the modern winemaker; You like wine, you work in wine and then you start making your own wine after cutting your teeth working with a bunch of cool wineries nearby. This is the story of Oscar Hermann, the man behind Combes Wines, who worked at iconic Melbourne bottle-o City Wine Shop and after working with wineries based in the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula decided he could do it himself. Long gone are the days of needing to own your own plot of vineyards and wait for an inheritance before committing to buying all the expensive equipment you need.. Just lean on some mates and Bob's your uncle. Today Oscar is making some modern wines from the regions he knows well from Mornington to Yarra and nearby Sunbury. The wines are clean as a whistle with still a great sense of fun that only youth and unburdened life can bring. The labels are fun and the merchandise is in fitting with any Melbourne hipster and the wines are a joy for any to drink.
