Details
The Blanc from Clos Marsalette is a mix of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon aged in oak for 9 months prior to bottling. This is a classy wine with green apple and lemon notes with a touch of spice and lanolin. These wines have been aged carefully in Bordeaux for the last few years and are only available in extremely short supply.

Clos Marsalette is one of the wineries owned by Stephan Von Neipperg, who comes from a German family with firm roots in the wine industry. Stephan was living and working in Paris when his father bought a winery in St. Emilion, Canon-La-Gaffelière, in 1971. Due to the fact that Stephan could speak French, he took over the running of this winery and quickly went to work in restoring the vineyards and the buildings on the property. This has been the MO for Stephan, and there are now eight wineries in Bordeaux under his management where there has been a focus on restoring old wineries to their former glory. Clos Marsalette was purchased by Stephan in 1992 and is located in the region of Pessac Léognan (don’t worry, we struggle to say that one too,) where there is a white and a red wine made each year. The red is sourced from the five and a half hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot and the white is sourced from a much smaller vineyard of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

Pairing guide
When it comes to classic Sauvignon Blanc Blend styles, Clos Marsalette is right up there with the best of them. This wine really calls out to be paired with simple fish or shellfish dishes - delicate fillets of bass, bream, sole, or even salmon will work a treat, as will scallops quickly seared in a hot pan, and served with little more than melted butter and squeeze of lemon. It’s also a great choice for pairing with green vegetables; beans, asparagus, artichoke, and peas will work well, especially if paired with goats’ cheese or tofu.

Wine region
Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America! Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
