Details
A powerful Malbec from the great terroir of Cahors, yet here made without oak. Violet notes dominate the nose, with pure and fresh dark fruits, and approachable crunchy tannins. There are some spicy earth aromas alongside red berries, cherries and notes of fresh tobacco. Fresh yet super complex.

It really says something about the French winemaking scene that the Jouffreau family, who produce their hugely characterful wines in Gamot - a village in south-west France - can trace their winemaking ancestry back to the 15th century… and this barely raises an eyebrow. This is a part of the world where fine winemaking is the very lifeblood of local industry, and where serving a meal without a solid glass of red is likely to get you banished from your village for life. The Jouffreau clan, with their centuries of expertise, really know how to make the most of their awesome terroir, which produces the grapes used to make the Le Gamotin wines which have become something of a cult hit in recent years. Designed to be young, crisp, and hugely satisfying when paired with simple, rustic meals, these are the wines which form the backbone of the cute French bistro that lives permanently in your imagination. You know the one that we mean. Delightfully, the Jouffreau family like to compare this series of wines with the character of Gavroche from Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables whenever possible. It couldn’t be more thrillingly French if it tried.

Pairing guide
Who could resist the bold and unmissable flavour of this stunning Malbec from Le Gamotin? With its rich fruit flavours and stunning structure, it’s the kind of wine that accompanies slow-grilled meats, cooked for hours in a pot over some glowing coals. Pretty much any of the darker meats will work brilliantly with this wine - everything from duck to beef, lamb, and game will hit the spot - and it’s also going to be amazing with sage-flavoured sauces, wild mushrooms, blue cheese, and wild rice preparations.

Wine region
Cahors, France
Whilst Malbec may have found its new world home in Argentina, it is essential not to forget its roots. Once a mainstay in Bordeaux (where it is still used), MAlbec's spiritual home in France is Cahors in the country's southwest. This region is complete with gastronomic flair and rich, dense, deeply coloured red wines. There is a range of complex soils in Cahors, and increasing investment and a younger wave of exciting winemakers have seen the wine styles in this part of the world become more and more modern over the years. So if you fancy spreading your Malbec wings, Cahors is a must-try for you!
