Details
The nose of this cracking sparkling Shiraz is elegant and lively with lovely, rich aromas of blackberry, dark cherry fruit and mixed spices. It spends ample time ageing on lees, and is well balanced, with a soft, creamy, palate of strawberry and red cherry fruit flavours.
Château Tanunda is an iconic Barossa building that is part of the very fabric of that esteemed region. It was established in 1890 and is the site of some of the Barossa's first vines planted as well as its first winery. The majestic bluestone winery and vineyards is a living testament to the colourful history and pioneering spirit of Australia’s most famous wine region! At one stage the largest winery in the southern hemisphere, for years it was the heart of Barossa winemaking. A veritable pantheon of legendary Australian winemakers worked or studied at the facility, including Bill Seppelt, Grant Burge, Geoff Merrill and others. In 1994, the building was added to the National Heritage List. Sadly the winery was no longer operational, until 1999. Long story (and it's a hell of a story) short, this historic old chateau was purchased and reborn, and wine production resumed. The wines are traditional in the best sense, plain speaking, complex, and of the place. They are Barossan wines that have plenty to say. Powerful and detailed, they are a wonderful representation of this amazing piece of history.

Pairing guide
This delicious style is an Aussie classic - Sparkling Shiraz dates back to the 1940s! As you might expect, it’s the ideal pairing for all your favourite cured or smoked meats - salami, ribs, beef brisket and vegetables - but really, it’s a highly versatile wine which goes well with a massive range of ingredients. The cocoa-like richness combined with the bubbles means this wine loves intense flavours like cheaper cuts of beef, beans, chipotle chillies, mince and wild rice… so feel free to experiment!
