Details
This is a soft and rounded Bordeaux blend (a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot!), complete with drying tannins and a silky mouthfeel. It is a classic example with cedar, cigar box and quite a savoury profile which is offset nicely by some dark berries coming through. This is an absolute bargain, so get in quick.
Bordeaux is a giant wine region that seems to spread halfway across western France, and with this size comes some fascinating diversity. Tiny family estates right through to some of the most famous, moat-surrounded uber wineries you can think of - Bordeaux has it all. And with all that variation comes plenty of potential little-known gems at the edges. Château Rampeau is indeed at the edges, located in the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation at Bordeaux's far eastern fringe. Here is where some of Bordeaux's young and up-and-coming producers can be found (often making bargains). Château Rampeau isn't new, as the estate dates back to the 1930s, but winemaker Bernard Meynaud is the driving force here, revitalising his family's old property with a suite of wines that have a very classic feel and a welcome modern twist.

Pairing guide
Punchy yet elegant, complex yet beautifully balanced, this red wine from Château Rampeau is sure to delight the senses with its incredible flavours. When it comes to food pairing, we love this wine with classy red meat dishes; rare steak served with green peppercorn sauce, Moroccan lamb tagines, and osso bucco will all pair fantastically. It’s a great option for truffled meat and potato dishes, and will also work spectacularly with aged blue cheeses, wild mushrooms, and eggplant.

Wine region

Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America!
Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
