Details
Driven by delicious primary fruit aromatics that are subtle with an underlay of spiciness, this is a lovely medium-bodied Pinot Noir with this silken generosity and length. Effortless in its feel, with defined tannin and acidity. A mix of fruit and savour here – rich, plummy fruit with some clove and pepper, mixed with clay, earth and a hint of oak. Generous, rich, yet so fresh.
PJ Charteris and his wife Christina started their own label with the 2012 vintage, and have gone from strength to strength. PJ draws upon his vast knowledge of working in Australia, NZ and abroad to create Pinots that speak truly of Central Otago. PJ started working in vineyards at 13 and caught the wine bug straight away. He worked all over the world learning his craft at wineries such as Lindemans in the Hunter Valley, Rouge Homme in Coonawarra, Knappstein in the Care Valley, Adelsheim Vineyard in Oregon, Flowers in California and Paul Jaboulet in the Rhone Valley.....a great education! In 1999 he took up a job as winemaker at Brokenwood Wines in the Hunter Valley. He worked here for 12 years, earning an outstanding reputation not only as one of Australia’s leading winemakers, producing award winning wines, but also as a highly regarded spokesperson for not only Brokenwood Wines and the Hunter Valley but the Australian wine industry.

Pairing guide
The Central Otago region is known worldwide for the quality of its cooler climate Pinot Noir wines, and this release certainly brought plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ to the table once unscrewed and shared. It’s as food-friendly as you might expect from a beautifully-crafted lighter red, and it’s going to be especially good with dark meat poultry, slow cooked beef or lamb stews and offal dishes, beetroot and other root vegetables and gently spiced brown rice dishes. Ragu sauces, all kinds of medium and strong cheeses, cured meats and even more robust dishes of tuna and salmon will also fit the bill nicely.

Central Otago, New Zealand
New Zealand's Central Otago region is a cool climate haven on the country's South Island which, over the years has become something of a Mecca for one of the most complex, beguiling red grapes in the world: Pinot Noir. Home to some of the most southerly vineyards in the world, Central Otago's wines have gained cult status of late, often being compared as one of (if not) the best producers of Pinot Noir outside of its spiritual home of Burgundy in France. The region, with its dramatic scenery, is complete with vineyards planted on mountain slopes in some of the most stunning wine-growing areas in the wine world. But it's not just Pinot Noir that gets all of the attention. High-quality Riesling is also made in Central Otago by a handful of the region's family-owned, small, boutique producers.
