Details
This Shiraz is in its perfect drinking window - a lovely balance between primary fruit and savoury secondary notes. It starts with lifted perfumes of red berries and wafts of vanilla, before moving into some dusty earth and hints of leather. The palate is medium weight, with fine tannins that guide the fruit flavours nicely. There's some oaky spice to round things out. Spot on.

Origin: The first recognised wines were made in the Rhône Valley and south-eastern France. Mainly Grown In: One of the world’s leading grapes, it is found in France, Australia, the USA, Argentina and South Africa. Key Facts: Shiraz is a world-beater. Starting small in the southern reaches of France, it has spread to all corners of the world, and is known for producing some of the world’s great red wines, capable of perfume, power and persistence. Local versions are luscious and fruity, loaded with plum, raisin and plenty of oaky richness. European expressions however can be more savoury and tend towards flavours of olive, black cherry and pepper. Both are equally delicious, and are simply a matter of taste! Fun Fact: Australian Shiraz had so much success and held such a good reputation when poured internationally that numerous across the globe began to rename their Syrah to Shiraz. How about that!

Pairing guide
We all love a good bottle of Shiraz when it comes to meal times, and this stunner from Chapman Grove definitely knows how to get our taste buds going. It’s a superb red wine for pairing with barbecue dishes - all kinds of pork, beef, lamb or chicken creations cooked over coals or chargrilled will work a treat, especially if given a deeply savoury rub or served up with polenta, brown rice or grilled Mediterranean veggies. Bean and lentil dishes will also pair very nicely, and it’s also excellent with Mexican mole sauces and North African tagines.
