Details
Chalmers is hands-down one of Australia's great, pioneering wineries. Responsible for so many of the 'Mediterranean' varieties you know and love (think Fiano, Nero d'Avola and others), they have a huge focus on so-called 'alternative' varieties. So safe to say, they do a great job with Prosecco (aka Glera). This is loaded with yellow apple, white flowers and lemon verbena. So drinkable. So moreish.

The Chalmers name is iconic in Australia, for the impact they have had on the wine scene over the past three decades. Bruce and Jenni Chalmers began growing wine grapes in the mid 1980s in central NSW, and over the years their vineyard became one of the most diverse, privately owned vineyards in Australia. The sustainable viticulture techniques Chalmers implemented and refined at this site have been widely taken up, to improve water efficiency and fruit quality using less water and chemicals. They also established Chalmers Nurseries, which was responsible for importing a selection of around 70 clones and varieties (with a focus on Italian varieties) that were introduced to Australia in 2000 and have been a major factor in the diversification and improvements in quality seen in the Australian wine industry in the last decade. Grapes like Nero d'Avola, Fiano and Glera are all thanks to the Chalmers family - they imported the first cuttings, and you'll now find them throughout Australia. Hooray!

Pairing guide
Every celebration calls for a bottle of fizz or two, and this gorgeous Prosecco from Chalmers is a clear crowd-pleaser that’s ideal for buffets, finger foods and canapes. It’s also a stunning wine to crack open alongside opulent dishes of barbecued seafood, especially buttered lobster, crab and the biggest prawns you can get your hands on. Asian-spiced noodles and aromatic salad dishes will also be great, and we loved it with sweet-and-salty combos like Thai fish cakes with chilli jam, prosciutto with prunes and honey roasted peanuts.
