Details
The La Résistance from Chaffey Bros is their Grenache blend, with the addition of the usual suspects in Syrah and Mourvèdre. This is a rich, full-bodied GSM with plenty of dark fruit, pepper and toasty spice.

The Chaffey Bros are in fact brothers-in-law - Daniel Chaffey Hartwig and Theo Engela are the latest generation of the Chaffey family to ply their vinous trade in Australia. The name is based on their ancestors, the original Chaffey brothers, who were Canadian hydro engineers who arrived in Australia in 1886 and proceeded (along with a number of their descendants) to make an indelible mark on the Australian wine landscape. Their ethos is simple - present the vinous power, splendour and richness of the Barossa and Eden Valleys in a modern and digestible manner. So, their handmade, minimal-intervention wines come from individual parcels of low-yielding vineyards spread across the region. They are akin to wine-focussed parfumiers - discovering delicate aromatics, born from old vines, but mixed with blenders and storytellers. All in all, they're a more than welcome addition to the South Australian wine scene.

Pairing guide
Bold yet elegant, La Résistance brings together Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre in a classic Rhône-style blend. It’s bursting with dark cherry, plum, and savoury spice, finishing with silky tannins that make it beautifully food-friendly. Pair it with slow-cooked lamb shoulder, roast duck with herbs, or a rich mushroom and lentil casserole. It’s equally at home alongside grilled sausages, cassoulet, or hearty ratatouille. For a casual pairing, try it with gourmet burgers, wood-fired pizza with chorizo, or a platter of charcuterie and aged cheeses. This is a red that shines with robust, flavour-packed fare and lively conversation.
