Details
Kerner is a German variety that has found a lovely home in the Eden Valley. The Chaffey Bros team have been working with this single vineyard of Kerner for a decade and has mastered it. Think of riesling with a point of difference, citrus drive, with big floral notes and a touch more fleshiness with peach and orange blossom.

The Chaffey Bros are in fact brothers-in-law - Daniel Chaffey Hartwig and Theo Engela are the latest generation of the Chaffey family to ply their vinous trade in Australia. The name is based on their ancestors, the original Chaffey brothers, who were Canadian hydro engineers who arrived in Australia in 1886 and proceeded (along with a number of their descendants) to make an indelible mark on the Australian wine landscape. Their ethos is simple - present the vinous power, splendour and richness of the Barossa and Eden Valleys in a modern and digestible manner. So, their handmade, minimal-intervention wines come from individual parcels of low-yielding vineyards spread across the region. They are akin to wine-focussed parfumiers - discovering delicate aromatics, born from old vines, but mixed with blenders and storytellers. All in all, they're a more than welcome addition to the South Australian wine scene.

Pairing guide
A vibrant and aromatic white, Kontrapunkt is bursting with white peach, blossom, and a hint of spice, showing why Kerner is such a hidden gem. Its bright acidity and textured palate make it a dream with spicy dishes—think Thai green curry, chilli prawns, or spicy fish tacos. It’s also excellent with sushi, seared scallops, and lightly spiced Mediterranean fare like grilled halloumi or falafel wraps. For cheese lovers, pair it with creamy goat cheese or a soft brie to highlight its floral, fruity charm.
