Details
The Castillo Ladera team have produced a perfect crowd pleasing white for any occasion. This blend of Airén, Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc has plenty for everyone with some nice lemon zest, a touch of green apple and truck loads of zippy, mineral drive with a touch of nutty complexity to round things out.

Origin: Penedès in south-eastern Spain. Mainly Grown In: Rioja in Spain or Roussillon in France (known as Macabeo!) Key Facts: Viura in Rioja, Macabeo in France and the rest of Spain, wherever you find it, you can be sure it's going to be a winner. Somewhat under-appreciated (like Molly Weasley), it just needs the right light to shine. In the north of Spain it is responsible for some very age-worthy whites, often aged in wood, and always with a floral/nutty edge to them. In the south of France it is often blended with Grenache Blanc to make powerful, rich styles, again with that nutty edge. The wines live for a long time, changing in bottle, from fresh and floral to richer and with almond/honey notes. A real charmer, Viura is a grape to watch out for. Fun Fact: Viura is only really called Viura in Rioja, the rest of Spain, and the world tend to refer to it as Macabeo.

Pairing guide
It was love at first sip when it came to trying out this Airen blend from Castillo Ladera, which offers all the zesty freshness and vitality we know and love from this white wine style. It goes without saying this is a proper fish and seafood lover’s wine - scallops, ceviche, white fish fillets, garlicky prawns on the barbecue, fish ‘n’ chips and more will be a wonderful match for this bottle. It’s also great with spicy Thai curries, green salads, grilled chicken and turkey recipes and rice or noodle dishes, and will also work well with grilled vegetables like zucchini, too.

La Mancha is a wine region in Spain known for its hot and dry climate, high altitude vineyards, and significant grape production the top sub-regions are Almansa, Jumilla, and Manchuela, each with its own unique wine styles. The terroir across these regions can be characterized by the high chalk content of its soil, which helps to retain moisture during the arid summers. The top wine styles produced in La Mancha are primarily red wines made from the Tempranillo grape, including the well-known Crianza and the top tier Reserva styles, as well as Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. However, the region also produces some white wines made from the fruity Airen grape, which is a native varietal of La Mancha and one of the most widely planted white grape varieties in the world.
