Details
We have a lean and zesty Sicilian white on our hands here. Catarratto is one of the main white varieties on the island, and this example is fresh and zesty with lemons and limes in abundance along with an underlying saline note through the wine.
Origin: Sicily, Italy. Mainly Grown In: Sicily, Italy. Key Facts: Catarratto has very much been a flagship grape variety for the island of Sicily for centuries. It accounts for over half of the grapes and vineyards planted on the Mediterranean's largest island, and importantly plays a key role in the local fortified wine of the region: Marsala. Catarratto is a bit of a wizard; it is versatile, and brings lots of freshness and citrus vibes to wines when it is often blended with Grillo, Inzolia or more international varieties that have made it on to the island, such as Chardonnay. It also marries up with Carricante in the volcanic Etna sub-region of Sicily, some of these wines fetch a pretty penny and are known for their complexity and super high quality. Fun Fact: Say it with us: "cat-a-ratto" - easy peasy!

Sicily, Italy
Sicily is a productive island located in the Mediterranean Sea, off the southern coast of Italy.
The island has a varied landscape, with low coastal plains to hills and even active volcanic mountains. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Disease pressure is low thanks to drying coastal breezes making the region ideal for organic farming practices. The soils are volcanic, sandy, and clay.
Sicily can be divided into three wine regions, including the volcanic Etna DOC on the eastern side of the island, known for its red wines made from the Nerello Mascalese grape. The Marsala DOC on the island's western side is known for its fortified wines. The remaining Southeast of the Island produces a range of wines, notably Frappato and Nero d’Avola.
