Details
Oceans of joyous, concentrated purple fruit—that's what's great about this glossy yet spicy Margaret River Shiraz. Made from the oldest vines on the Cape Landing property (and always the CL7 block), this has power but also all these very cool climate, bacony/meaty peppery complexity and a long, long finish.

Located at the cool southern end of Margaret River, the Cape Landing Vineyard may have only been planted in 1996, but the property itself has a century-long history as part of the original Group Settlement Scheme that kicked off agriculture in WA's southwest. This vineyard is probably most famous for the Cape Landing Syrah wines, with winemaker Bruce Dukes (of Domaine Naturaliste wines) producing seriously spicy, cool-climate Shiraz/Syrah that we really like. Look out also for the textural barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc wines—they're much more interesting than your usual Sauvignon Blanc!

Pairing guide
With all this peppery, spicy, aromatic intensity, it's hard not to go for a suitably spicy dish to pair. Cured meats, sausages, smoky beans and eggplants, and other smoked dishes will work wonderfully with this superb Syrah, and the purple fruit intensity of the wine really adds an extra layer of richness to your dishes. Pizza is a wonderful friend here, too, as would hearty tomato-based stews and pasta (especially with those smoky ingredients). Ideally you'll want to avoid anything that has a lot of chilli heat though as the spicy wine could be a potential clash.
