Details
Viognier is the perfumed, generous one in the white wine family, and plenty of southern French sunshine has this bottle leaning right into it. That said, this isn't heavy or thick; it has a lovely balance of apricot and white peach, with a lick of citrus marmalade and a spray of honeysuckle. It sits somewhere between medium and full-bodied, but that juiciness makes us call it fuller-flavoured. Time in oak adds a soft, creamy roundness without tasting woody, while a thread of freshness stops it from going too far.

Château de Campuget is a top producer in the Nîmes region of Southern France. The town of Nimes gives you the feeling of stepping back in time to the days of the Roman Empire. The Château was built in 1753 and wine production began in 1942. Since 2019, there has been a great focus on the environment in the winery while still maintaining their reputation for quality aromatic whites, Provence-style rosé, and compelling reds. Adventurous drinkers keep an eye out for the Saperavi. The distinguishing feature of Château de Campuget’s estate is the ‘Galets Roulés’. These are large round pebbles that coat the grounds of premium Rhône vineyards. The pebbles are remnants of Alpine glaciers that retreated during the last ice age. These pebbles help retain heat during the day which is slowly released during the night, helping the grapes continue to ripen. Rock chat aside, the winery has a great balance of history and modern outlook on the environment and their wines.

Pairing guide
Viognier's ripe apricot and soft, creamy weight want food with a bit of gentle spice and sweetness to meet them. Chicken with apricots and couscous, or plenty of ginger for a proper tang, is almost too neat a match, the fruit on the plate mirroring the fruit in the glass, though we'd caution against going too long on the apricots in the dish, as it could be too much of everything! A coconut and lime fish curry works too; the honeysuckle perfume loves the lime and coconut. Finally, a pumpkin and parmesan soup matches its richness nicely for a vegetarian option.

Costieres des Nimes, France
Costieres des Nimes is a wine region located in the southern Rhône Valley in France, known for producing full-bodied and fruit-forward wines. The terroir here is characterised by free draining (and heat retaining) stony soils, strong Mediterranean winds, and a sunny, warm climate. The top wine styles produced in the region include red blends made primarily from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, as well as rose and white blends. The sub-regions of note include the villages of Saint-Gilles and Beaucaire. One need to know fact about Costieres des Nimes is that it is one of the oldest wine regions in France, with a winemaking history dating back over 2,000 years. In recent years, the region has gained attention for its quality at affordable prices, making it an increasingly popular choice among wine enthusiasts, especially the thirsty ones.
