Details
Utterly unique this - an unfortified, dry Palomino from the Jerez single vineyard of Macharnudo. This special bottle is a cuvée called La Choza and is soft, full, golden and earthy. There's a wash of smoke and herbal tea in a strong, rich and deep, very savoury and mineral palate. Look for flavours of fenugreek, dried peach, barley water and oat biscuit. But mostly just revel in its complexity.
Enter the world of Callejuela, where the Blanco brothers, Pepe and Paco, craft exceptional Palomino wines in the heart of Marco de Jerez. Founded by their father, Francisco Blanco Martínez, in 1980, the winery has since become a beacon of traditional winemaking practices. With 28 hectares spread across four pagos (vineyard sites), including holdings in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Jerez, Callejuela is deeply rooted in the region's viticultural heritage. Embracing a philosophy of late harvests to ensure optimal grape quality, the Blancos prioritise preserving the pure expression of Palomino grapes. They focus on individual vineyard sites, itself a rarity in the region. Thus their wines not only show regional typicity, but shine a light on the special vineyards of the region, that for so long have been blended away. Their dedication to tradition and terroir shines through in every bottle, from fortified Finos to table wines, making Callejuela a dynamic and esteemed producer in the new world of Jerez.

Pairing guide
This fascinating white wine from Callejuela really makes the most of the quality of their single vineyard Palomino grapes, and is sure to act as the perfect introduction to this wine style for those seeking something a little different. It’s a top-notch food pairing bottle too; we loved it alongside simple fish dishes - especially raw or seared fish like tuna steak and fatty salmon loin - and all-times favourites like fish ‘n’ chips with tartare sauce. Mild and creamy cheeses are always welcome, and it’s also great with salads or marinated vegetables like artichoke, fennel and kohlrabi with a zesty dressing.

Wine region

Jerez, Spain
The Jerez wine region, located in southwestern Spain, is famous for its production of Sherry. The hot and dry Mediterranean climate along with unique clay/limestone soils make it the perfect environment for growing the Palomino, Pedro Ximénez, and Moscatel grapes. The majority of Sherry is made using the Palomino grape. It is made using a unique process called the solera system, in which young wines are blended with older wines to create a more nuanced and flavourful drink. The region is also home to a rich cultural heritage, with many festivals such as, Feria de Jerez, centred around the production and consumption of sherry.
