Details
The hills above Venice are not only green, beautiful and full of charming ristoranti but they also deliver the best Pinot Grigio on the planet. Ca' di Alte give us something oh so crisp and snappy here too, with chalky pear juice flavour on a light and refreshing palate and uplifting finish.
Ca’ di Alte was created by winemaker Alberto Marchisio, a native of Piedmont who made his home in Veneto, who is now in charge of one of the biggest wineries in the region, Cantina Colli Vicentini in Montecchio Maggiore. Whilst founded in 1955, it has been during the last ten years that Alberto has dramatically improved the quality of the wines, with a focus on fruit purity and producing the highest quality grapes with the most modern technology, whilst also safeguarding local traditions. The fruit for Ca’ di Alte is grown primarily on the hills of volcanic soil south of Vicenza called the Colli Berici, where the hillside, north-facing vineyard sites ensure lower yields and optimum ripeness of the grapes, whilst preserving the delicate aromas needed for the wines. The Palladian window on the label references the work of the great Andrea Palladio, many of whose masterpieces are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The 16th century architect lived in Montecchio Maggiore and Vicenza for most of his life.

Pairing guide
Who doesn’t love a chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio when lunchtime rolls around? This deliciously bright and refreshing release from Ca’ di Alte is right up our street, offering food pairing possibilities with a massive range of tasty ingredients. We especially enjoyed it with a Goan prawn curry, but any seafood or shellfish dish - especially if featuring coconut milk or exotic fruits - will hit the spot in peerless style. Marinated antipasto vegetables, simple pasta dishes, vegetable or chicken risotto, green leafy salads and sushi will also work brilliantly here.
