Details
Schadenfreude is the exquisite German phrase meaning ‘pleasure derived from another’s misfortune.’ But here you can take guilt-free pleasure as this wine is delicious; juicy blue and red-berried fruits, plush from part whole bunch fermentation - which also adds a savoury, stalky element - with herbal notes, and a touch of vanilla. Spicy, cool climate Shiraz made without any additions except a dash of sulphur on bottling.
Porongurup, in the deep south of Western Australia, is over 4 hours drive from Perth. It's from this remote outpost that high quality wine is being made in small quantities by a handful of exciting producers… none more exuberant or boundary-pushing than Andries and Yoko Luscher-Mostert, the husband and wife team behind Brave New Wine. Brave New Wine was conceived one dark and stormy night, as an antidote to Andries’ previous job of working in commercial wineries. In his own words, Andries is an old geezer who has been kicking about the Aussie wine industry for the last 25 years. His wife, creative genius and marketing legend Yoko does just about everything but make the wine, including designing the labels. They seek out tiny volumes of high quality fruit from vineyards in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, and employ a minimal intervention approach to turning those grapes into delicious wine. They're a breath of fresh air for the wine scene in WA and indeed Australia, and their wines are very delicious to boot!

Pairing guide
Versatile, delicious, and utterly quaffable, this gorgeous Shiraz is sure to put a smile on your guests’ faces at any party, barbecue, or family dinner. It’s clearly got an affinity for barbecued and smoky meats, but you’ll discover amazing results also with Mexican and Tex Mex dishes, hearty stews and braises, bean and lentil casseroles, and bitter greens like kale and broccoli. Eggplant and zucchini bakes will be good with this one, as will lamb shanks and chops, knuckle of pork, and grilled game meats, too.

Wine region

Porongorup, Australia
Porongorup is a small, yet noteworthy wine sub-region located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is known for producing high-quality, cool-climate wines, particularly Riesling and Chardonnay. The region is characterised by its rolling hills and rocky soil, which provide excellent drainage for the vines. The cool climate, combined with long hours of sunshine, creates ideal growing conditions for the production of bright and crisp wines with good acidity and minerality. Porongorup is a relatively new wine region, but its wines have already gained recognition for their quality and character. If you're looking for a wine that's both refreshing and complex, a bottle from Porongorup is a great choice.
