Details
For those who own a Kelpie or even know a Kelpie, you can attest to the amount of energy they have. This Shiraz Viognier blend who carries the Kelpie namesake has plenty of energy. First the colour is bright purple and this purple thread is evident throughout the wine. There are violets, blue plums and blackberries that knit together along with spicy oak and elegant tannin, and just like a Kelpie it’s not cuddly until you have thrown the ball a million times.

For the majority of you who are enamoured with winemakers with what must seem to be a perfect job compared to boring office jobs or a tradie and the folly of all their clients who think they could do a better job! Well owning a winery is a combination of office work and a job where plenty of people tell you what they think of your booze, good or bad. For Cathy and Neil who make Boots & All, the name is never more apt with their roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and honest approach. Cathy is the winemaker and Neil handles the logistics of day to day winery operations and they certainly give it their boots and all. Their main operation is for their main winery, Whicher Ridge, yet this label has been made in partnership with the Good Paid Days team. So, to people like Cathy and Neil who give it their all and at least at the end of the day, they don’t have to go searching too hard for a good glass of wine.

Pairing guide
This Shiraz-Viognier blend is one of Australia’s great gifts to the world of wine, and we just can’t get enough of this delicious bottle from Boots & All. It’s a stunning wine to pair with food, too - we loved it with a homemade pizza, pulled pork sandwiches, Chinese barbecue dishes and ribs, and it’s equally good with pork casseroles and chicken thigh dishes featuring aromatic herbs like rosemary and thyme. Roast autumnal vegetables like squash and sweet potato will be excellent, as will vegetarian takes on lasagna, chilli con carne and goulash.

Wine region
Geographe, Australia
Geographe is a wine region located in the South West region of Western Australia (40 minute’s drive Northeast of Margaret River). It has a Mediterranean-style climate with warm, dry summers and mild, winters, which is ideal for growing grapes. The soils are predominantly sandy loams, providing good drainage and nutrient levels for the vines, and some vineyards have access to the permanent water table 15m below. It is known for producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz. Compared to nearby Margaret River, Cabernet Sauvignon from Geographe tends to have distinctly fine gain and lingering tannins. The region has seen a rapid growth of boutique producers in recent years, aided by its proximity to Geographe Bay, which is home to a world-class food and wine scene, but attractions like Busselton Jetty, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and gorgeous seascape panoramas.
