Details
This Rioja has layers of complexity, with Maraschino cherry, coconut, and vanilla all vying for the front seat. Behind those layers is a serious wine with a lengthy finish that needs to spend time in the glass, preferably while cooking up a storm.
Bodegas Riojanas is one of Rioja’s great heritage wineries, proudly crafting wines that capture the soul of this iconic Spanish region. Founded in 1890 in the historic town of Cenicero, the estate has spent more than a century perfecting the art of Rioja winemaking—balancing tradition, patience, and a deep respect for place. While the company has roots in Rioja, it has expanded to include estates in Rueda, Rias Baixas, Ribera de Duero and Toro, as well as dipping its toes in the waters of Bierzo, Cava and the wonderful world of Vermouth. There is a lovely mix of tradition and creativity in the wines, with Rioja showcasing the traditional side and Toro showcasing the playful nature of the various brands. We are excited to bring our customers these wines to showcase not just classical Tempranillo, but also forgotten Verdejo and Spanish rosé that really packs a punch.

Pairing guide
Elegant and classically styled, Monte Real Crianza Rioja brings together ripe red berries, plum, vanilla oak, and a gentle touch of spice with beautifully integrated tannins. Its balance of fruit and barrel ageing makes it a superb partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, or herb-crusted pork. It also shines with traditional Spanish dishes like chorizo, grilled peppers, and aged manchego. For something comforting, pair it with mushroom risotto, slow-cooked stews, or a rich tomato-based pasta. A refined Rioja that elevates both rustic fare and more formal dining with ease.

Wine region

Rioja, Spain
Rioja (riˈouhɑ) is one of Spain’s most well-known wine regions, located in the north of Spain. The region has a long history of making wine that dates back to the period of the Roman Empire. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters which suits the varieties of Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Graciano almost became extinct due to the effects of phylloxera in the late 1800s however, luckily, the variety is back in full swing. There are three main classifications of wine according to their ageing process- Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserva.
