Details
This delightful range of reds from Bodegas Pinoso, which utilises Monastrell as their key variety, showcases all that is great about Spanish reds. There is a warm sunshine feel about this wine with cherry and red plum fruit notes, dried herbs and woody spice as well as a nice hint of liquorice.

The Bodegas Pinoso team is an odd team, you have the affable Irish man, David, who is great at chatting about all things wine with his dreamy accent, but don’t let that fool you as he slips into effortless Spanish when chatting to Miguel, the other half of their team. The winery is based in sunny Alicante, where they have a strong focus on organic management in the vineyard. Pinoso's vineyards are planted at an average of 600m above sea level. This elevation makes for cooler nights allowing their fruit to retain that all-important acidity needed for a balanced wine. The focus of Pinoso is Monastrell (AKA Mourvèdre or Mataro) which is well suited to warm climates and plenty of sun. They make delicious and colourful red and pink wines from this key variety as well as a mix of other varieties in the white space, including the ultra rare Merseguera. We recommend these delicious wines with some jambon or semi-hard cheese.

Pairing guide
We’re big Monastrell fans here at Good Pair Days, and this gorgeous bottle from the ever-reliable Bodegas Pinoso really delighted our palates. It’s the kind of wine with so much food pairing possibility, it’s not easy to know where to start - it’s going to be great with classic bistro dishes like bourguignon, cassoulet, tartare of beef and ratatouille, but also works very well with European favourites like goulash and beef stroganoff. Butter chicken and other tomato-based curries work well, as do stuffed peppers and tomatoes, roast poultry and barbecued ribs. Mmm!
