Details
The wine is a cherry-red colour, with a suggestion of violet. It is very intense. On the nose, fruit and aromas of raspberry and black fruits are noticeable. In the mouth, one can appreciate toasted aromas alongside toffee. It is a heavy wine that is balsamic and persistent.
Bodegas y Viñedos Ilurce is a family company founded in 1940, after the Spanish Civil War. The family had in fact been growing grapes since 1850 (so they'd gotten pretty good at it), and decided to branch out into winemaking. They purchased a winery in La Rioja, the heartland of Spanish wine, and made wine here until quite recently....when they began to run out of room! The accumulation of barrels and wine and equipment was becoming too much, so the current generation of this wine family purchased a new warehouse and winery in order to continue to grow the estate. The growing of grapes remains at the forefront of company's vision with modern but soulful winemaking backing up the high-quality viticulture. They have a range of local and international varieties planted in their vineyards, enabling a range of single vineyard wines and blends to be orchestrated in any vintage. This is a family focussed on sustainable growth, utilising modernism in the best ways to expand their reach … but without forgetting that the most important is the vineyards and the know-how inherited from their ancestors.

Wine region

Rioja, Spain
Rioja (riˈouhɑ) is one of Spain’s most well-known wine regions, located in the north of Spain. The region has a long history of making wine that dates back to the period of the Roman Empire. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters which suits the varieties of Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Graciano almost became extinct due to the effects of phylloxera in the late 1800s however, luckily, the variety is back in full swing. There are three main classifications of wine according to their ageing process- Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserva.
