Details
Combine the quality found from low yielding 15-year-old vines with the nearly perfect vintage report of Veneto in 2016 and you’ll get one lip-smacking starburst of concentrated fruit. Right off the nose, the Bocelli Pinot Grigio awakens all senses with a complex balance of ripe meyer lemon, tangerine and an alluring menthol-like freshness. On the palate, the wine is crisp, yet juicy — and is as easy to drink a fruit cocktail but oh-so-much better — with ripe citrus flavours that mirror the nose and ripe grapefruit that carries through the zesty finish.

The Bocelli family represent pretty much everything we absolutely adore about Tuscany in Italy. Headed by the formidable matriarch of the Bocelli clan, Mamma Edi Bocelli, this traditional family winery boasts three centuries of pristine Tuscan winemaking experience, enjoyed from their ancestral home situated among the rolling hills of Lajatico. Across those three centuries, they’ve certainly picked up a thing or two about top-rate Italian viticulture, and today, they’re regarded as forerunners in their region, effortlessly blending the ancient with the modern in every bottle. Of course, there’s no shortage of family wineries with a few hundred years under their belts in Tuscany - in fact, it’s more or less par for the course in this part of the world. What makes Bocelli so special is the fact that they’ve managed to preserve plenty of heritage vines throughout their estate, which lends their wines a real sense of finesse and expression. Most of the Sangiovese and Trebbiano vines at Bocelli are around a hundred years old, meaning there’s so much more terroir packed into each and every glass of quality vino that Mamma Edi produces. While Bocelli winery primarily deals in classic Tuscan wines, there’s always room for experimentation and innovation, and one eye is forever fixed upon the future. As such, recent years have seen them purchase vineyards in Veneto for the production of Prosecco and Pinot Grigio to add to their already excellent range.

Pairing guide
Mmm… a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio on a warm day served up with a big plate of something delicious sounds like food and wine heaven from where we’re standing! Pinot Grigio is famous for its food-friendliness, which goes a long way towards explaining why it’s become such a tour de force all around the world. It’s tempting to stick to the classics with this bottle from Bocelli - chicken and pesto, pasta carbonara, or grilled fish with garlic butter - but it would be a shame not to explore the reaches beyond Italian restaurant favourites. Why not try matching this wine up with battered fish and chips, Thai crab salad, or even sushi?
