Details
From organically tended vineyards, made with the utmost of care - this unoaked Tempranillo is brilliant in the glass and on the nose! Intense aromas of red and black fruits, tangy acidity and a fresh finish, despite the full-bodied nature of the wine. There's plenty going on here, and it's easy to be drawn back for a second glass. Soft tannins complete the picture for a beautifully balanced wine.
Biurko is a Basque word that means “place of two waters”, and is the name of an area in the town-land formed by two hillsides and a valley. The name suggests that at some time in the past two streams flowed here. The Llorens family, who own this lovely winery, committed itself to a long-term project where they would process and market the grapes from their own vineyards by combining the best in state-of-the-art technology and tradition to obtain high-quality wines. The winery was built in 1992 and is located in Bargota, a small village that lies at the base of the Sierra de Cantabria, at an altitude of a 600 metres. The winery, surrounded by family vineyards and olive groves, was built on a hill overlooking the local countryside and offers excellent views of the surrounding area. The philosophy at Biurko is based on combining the cultivation of its grapevines through traditional natural agricultural methods and modern technology. This enables the winery to produce select quality wines whilst maintaining the characteristics of the local grape varieties. The style is modern, fruity and balanced, and whilst already impressive, is definitely on the rise.

Pairing guide
This gorgeous Tempranillo boasts all of the features we love so much about this fantastically flavourful grape varietal. As such, it’s a wine which deserves to be paired with tasty, hearty, rustic dishes, exploding with all the flavours of the Mediterranean. Tempranillo wines love being match with smoky meats, so don’t hesitate to crack this bottle open at your next barbecue. Alternatively, you could pair it with tomato-based stews, lasagna, even pizza topped with your favourite salami or pepperoni. Mexican dishes, too, tend to be a great pairing for this wine style, and you’ll also get top results with corn dishes (so don’t forget the tortilla chips!).

Wine region

Rioja, Spain
Rioja (riˈouhɑ) is one of Spain’s most well-known wine regions, located in the north of Spain. The region has a long history of making wine that dates back to the period of the Roman Empire. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters which suits the varieties of Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Graciano almost became extinct due to the effects of phylloxera in the late 1800s however, luckily, the variety is back in full swing. There are three main classifications of wine according to their ageing process- Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserva.
