Details
Le Domaine is a vineyard high above the Loire River that makes some wonderfully elegant expressions of Cabernet Franc, just like this beautiful wine from Bernard Baudry. It smells and tastes of blackberries, fresh herbs, red earth and brambles with a perfect balance between red fruit flavour and a real freshness.

Bernard Baudry is a revered name in the Loire Valley. A brilliant winery whose sole focus is on the Cabernet Franc grape, from a selection of vineyards in the subregion of Chinon. From a stunning bone-dry rosé to juicy, slurpable red, all the way through to serious age-worthy wines that compete with the best, it is amazing to see the range and diversity that is possible from this one grape variety. Part of the reason for this is the different vineyards the wines come from - old vines, from a few different plots. Also, all the vines are managed organically, which seems to coax out extra finesse and purity. These are very much 'wines of place' - you can taste the fresh fruit and the gravelly soils in every bottle. They have a juicy, silky personality in the mouth that keeps you coming back and have richness yet are intensely savoury at the same time. All in all, very special wines.

Pairing guide
Cabernet Franc from the Loire is a magical red that manages to be both lithe and lively while also having depth and complexity, with this beauty from Bernard Baudry well on form. As for pairings, this Chinon offers a wonderful match for a variety of vegetables harvested from the garden or the leg of lamb you have cooking on the grill. You also can’t go wrong with a tomato tart, lentil salad, or a simple assortment of your favourite pre-dinner snacks.
