Details
Syrah and Viognier combine impressively here for a dense yet elegant wine of great perfume and power. Rich red fruits are accompanied by notes of pepper, ginger and apricot, all topped off by a lovely rose petal top note. Satin-textured and very fine - great stuff.
It’s hard to imagine, but there was once a time - and not all that long ago - that South African wines weren’t much of a big deal. However, thanks to hardworking and visionary winemakers like the Gabb family, the Cape’s fortunes and reputation as a centre of viticultural excellence has done something of a 180-degree turn over the past few decades… and the vino coming from this fascinating and varied New World country gives us plenty to shout about. The vineyards which lead to this spectacular wine are situated on the far side of Stellenbosch, where the land remains just wild enough to keep things interesting, and yet still packed with the rich and complex soils that make this such a beloved corner of the winemaking world. Using bold methods, and never shying away from controversial and surprising blends, the Gabbs keep us all guessing in the best possible way. Long may they continue!

Pairing guide
This delightful red blend from Bee's Knees really highlights the masterful balance of Shiraz and an array of complementary varietals, making it brilliantly versatile when it comes to food pairing. It goes without saying that this is a champion barbecue-pairing wine, and it’s going to taste fantastic with all kinds of homemade burgers, racks of ribs, chops and steaks. Lamb, beef, or pork meatballs in gravy will be delicious here, and it’s also a top match for Tuscan-style bean stews, lentil bakes and casseroles, and roasted root vegetables.
