Details
Talk about texture! This multi-layered Tassie Pinot Gris has got loads going on, no doubt helped by some clever winemaking where a third of the grapes were treated like a red wine to build in more complexity. It works too, delivering us a soft and round white loaded with Nashi pear and some fleshy highlights.
Unless you’ve been living under a hefty rock for the past ten years, you can’t have escaped the hype and excitement surrounding the Tasmanian wine scene. Once seen as something of a backwater, Tasmania has risen through the ranks to be - correctly - identified as one of the food and wine capitals of the world in the 21st century, and it’s all thanks to amazing, diligent, hard-working wineries like Beautiful Isle. With their vibrant, eye-catching labels (based on the traditional Tazzie ‘Apple Isle’ posters of yesteryear) and an incredible array of flavours and aromas, Beautiful Isle has garnered something of a cult following. It isn’t hard to understand why. This winery is completely dedicated to showing the world just why Tasmania’s reputation is rocketing in the way it is. Beautiful Isle wines are accessible, uncomplicated and fun to drink… yet they pack in the kinds of flavours and characteristics that other wineries around the world would give their left arm for.

Pairing guide
With its lovely pear fruit weight and the extra grippy tang that comes from a little bit of skin contact, this very juicy and sweet fruited Tassie Pinot Gris is such a marvellous wine. It will pair so well with spicy SE Asian dishes too, from Thai curries to Indian tikka, with that lovely fruit generosity in the wines the perfect foil for a bit of chilli heat. Spiced fish, larbs and hot rice dishes, as well as roasted chicken or pork are going to be right in the zone with this wine, especially if you serve it very very cold.

Tamar Valley, Australia
The Tamar Valley, located on the banks that run along the Tamar river on the northern coast of Tasmania, is one of Tasmania’s oldest wine-growing areas. Its cool climate moderated by the river makes it perfect for growing high-quality grapes and producing premium wines. In particular, the region has built a very high reputation for its Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Sparkling wines which are giving some of the best of Burgundy and Champagne a run for their money. The secret is out, a region that was once humbly flying under the radar is now producing wines that are coveted by wine lovers all around the world.
