This Portuguese red is a party in a glass! A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, it's full of brambly fruit, ripe raspberry and spice, with a balanced mix of structure, spice, and violet. It's round and easy-going, making it a refreshing and moreish choice. A great example of the quality still wines from the Douro Valley!
Casa de Vila Nova’s estate dates back to the XII century; imagine having a family legacy so historic you have to write it in roman numerals. The original tower still stands, and the house has expanded over time, with new blocks built and old areas rehabilitated. Casa de Vila Nova is located in the sub-region of Sousa, the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region of Northern Portugal. What a piece of history! In the late 70s, the owner Luís Lencastre decided to try his hand at producing vinho verde, and in ‘86, he went all in, converting the vineyards and making a significant investment in machinery, equipment, and agricultural resources. Fast forward to 2003, and Casa de Vila Nova produced their first batch of vinho verde using grapes from their own vineyards. Since then, their wine has become a hit, making its way to modern distribution channels and even high-end restaurants and hotels. They’ve since expanded their offering to include indigenous and international varieties: Alvarinho, Avesso, Loureiro, Arinto, Fernão Pires and also Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Impressively, the company is still run by the family, with Bernardo, Luísa, Sofia, and Filipe as business partners. Talk about keeping it in the family!

Pairing guide
Made with bold and flavourful Touriga Nacional variety grapes, this delicious Portuguese red calls out for deep and punchy flavours to be paired with. We reckon it’s a great option for rich Spanish-style pork stews, bean casseroles and barbecued red meats, and will also work brilliantly with family favourites like meat loaf, homemade burgers, meatballs in tomato sauce and lasagna. Braised beef, wild mushrooms, lamb with olives and anchovies and meaty paella will also provide superb matches for this wine!
