Details
It's pretty easy to see the charm of Tuscan Sangiovese, especially in a form like this. Medium-bodied, this smells of red berries and leather belts (try and unsmell that). There's a flourish of berry fruit here, but the real charm is how savoury it is, with these meaty cherry overtones that just feel so Italian.
Babino is the latest label from Justin Bubb, the Aussie winemaker who made wine in Italy for almost 10 years in the early 2000s, before coming home to work at his wife's family winery, Pooley, in Tasmania. Justin is pretty handy behind the vats, too, especially as his time in Italy included making wine for the famed wineries Castello di Gabbiano and Brezza. Today, Justin and his two best mates run an operation focused on bringing classic Italian styles to Australia. Naturally, given his experience in Chianti and Barolo, Justin has focused on wines from Tuscany and Piedmont, but the range of wines across his brands Babo and Babino includes delicious vino from Friuli, Veneto, and Sicily. These are quality Italian wines, born from over a decade of experience on the land, with a modern and fresh bent, perfect for the Australian climate and temperament.

Pairing guide
Meet the very best pizza wine you can think of. This Babino Sangiovese is such a savoury number that you need dishes that dial in the savoury without being overpowering, and a classic tomato-based Italian pizza is going to be a winner. Salami, prosciutto, slow-cooked pork and other cured meats, beef cheek, grilled capsicum, eggplant, sundried tomato are your go-to flavours here, and obviously we've talked pizza, but risotto or pasta as an option is going to be wonderful as the base to build those ingredients in!

Wine region

Tuscany, Italy
Tuscany is a region located in central Italy known for its rolling hills, beautiful countryside, and rich cultural and artistic heritage. But for us, it’s synonymous with wine, mainly those of Chianti. The Tuscany wine region is located in central Italy and is known for producing formidable red wines made from grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The area is home to several famous wine regions, including Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which are known for producing some of Italy's most highly regarded wines. Notable producers include Antinori for their legendary Chianti and Tenuta San Guido for their fabled Sassicaia label.
