Details
The Anvers Syrah is a great example of modern Australian Syrah, utilising the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills and some winemaking techniques. The end result is a bright and energetic Syrah with still some interest for those who like something with a bit of structure. Dark plums and blackberries drive this wine along with layers of black pepper, iodine and subtle black olive notes.
The Anvers story starts in Belgium in 1983, where owners Wayne and Myriam Keoghan first met. Indeed, the name Anvers pays homage to Myriam’s hometown of Antwerp. That's probably where the Belgian influence stops, however, as the wines here are very much modern Aussie styles, all sourced from the sustainably-run Anvers vineyard, located not far from the Mt Bold Reservoir in the Adelaide Hills. But the wines here have a split personality too, as the Anvers Vineyard straddles the border between McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, and that means you can still get cool and fresh sparkling wines, but also lavish and big boned reds. Choose your drinking adventure, right? That means Gamay, Barbera or fine Chardonnay, as well as full-bodied Shiraz and even a fortified red. Stir in a wonderful on-site restaurant serving local ingredient heavy cuisines, and you've got a great excuse to find a way to Kangarilla.

Pairing guide
This is a bright, structured Adelaide Hills Syrah with plenty of character to bring to the table. Chargrilled lamb cutlets, a slow-roasted lamb shoulder with roasted root vegetables or a thick-cut ribeye off the grill are all outstanding matches for the dark fruit and black pepper running through this wine. Those subtle black olive and savoury notes also make it a wonderful companion for a slow-braised beef and red wine stew, a hearty duck and lentil ragù or a Mediterranean-style roasted lamb with olives and herbs. For something more relaxed, an aged manchego or a good vintage cheddar alongside some dark chocolate is a simple but deeply satisfying way to round out the evening.

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
