Details
Get ready for a mineral explosion with the Ansgar Clüsserath 'Vom Schiefer' Riesling 2021! This wine is a crisp and refreshing sipper, with aromas of green apple, lemon, and wet stone. The name 'Vom Schiefer' actually means 'from the rocks'... very appropriate here! On the palate, it's zesty and tangy, with a mouthwatering acidity that balances the minerality and makes your taste buds come alive. The wine's texture is sleek and elegant, with a clean finish that leaves you wanting more.
Weingut Ansgar Clüsserath has been lovingly run by the family since its inception in 1670. Eva, Ansgar Clüsserath's daughter, and wife of the 2014 Gault Millau Winemaker of the Year Philipp Wittmann, is currently in charge of winemaking. Power couple? Eva is a part of Germany's new generation of winegrowers who are dedicated to both traditional, ecologically-friendly viticultural techniques and innovative methods. Riesling dominates 97% of the vineyards. The Clüsseraths are focussed on healthy vineyards for healthy grapes, for excellent wine! The 50-year-old Füder, traditional round-bellied casks with a capacity of 1000 litres, provides the perfect atmosphere for slow and natural fermentation. Time is the magic ingredient here, along with a focussed, delicate yet simple approach. Delicious.

Pairing guide
The name on the bottle might be a bit of a mouthful, but there’s no denying the deliciously bracing charm of this classic Mosel Valley Riesling. It’s the kind of wine we love to drink alongside grilled pork chops and potato salad, steak milanese with crisp green vegetables, cheesy spaetzle and various other Mitteleuropean delicacies. Breaded chicken, fish ‘n’ chips, grilled prawns and scallops and marinated tofu skewers will all be fabulous here, and it’s also not half bad with a coconut milk-based curry or aromatic korma, either.

Wine region

Mosel, Germany
Mosel is arguably Germany's most famous wine region and is home to some of the best white wines on the talent made from the mighty Riesling grape variety. Here you will find some of the steepest vineyards in the world planted on the banks of the Mosel River, which plays a crucial role in ripening the grapes, acting as a mirror to reflect sunlight off the water back onto the steep, slate vineyards, warming up the soils and ripening the berries. Riesling is produced in a range of styles and sweetnesses here, from bone dry, to lusciously sweet. If you are in the market for world-class Riesling, then look no further than this stunning region.
