Details
The Alma de Mecenas range continues to impress us here at Good Pair Days HQ. This Verdejo is the latest in the impressive range and has astounding value. Lots of citrus character at work here, with lovely freshness.
Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: The central-northern Spanish region of Rueda. Also in small amounts in the USA. Key Facts: Verdejo is the pride and joy of Rueda, in the northern part of Spain. Here it achieves it's ultimate expression - nutty, rich and aromatic. It's a real chameleon of a grape, having some characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc (grassy, high acidity), but also some richer, rounder tones. Look out for complex flavours of bay leaf, almond and lemon. Whilst the acidity can be bright and tangy, there's always plenty of depth to the wines, meaning they have a really lovely texture - soft and even creamy sometimes. A really lovely expression that deserves more attention! Fun Fact: Verdejo grapes originated in North Africa and were brought to Spain around 1100AD.

Pairing guide
We’ve been singing the praises of Verdejo wines for years, and this wonderful bottle from Alma de Mecenas is a superb example of what this zesty white variety does best. When it comes to food pairing, we’d recommend matching this bottle with white fish and seafood dishes, especially those with a south Indian or southeast Asian twist. Thai curries, chicken breast with lemongrass and ginger, fried rice recipes and green salads also get our vote!

Wine region

Rueda, Spain
Rueda is a small but mighty wine region in northwestern Spain known for its refreshing and aromatic white wines made primarily from the Verdejo grape. The region's high altitude and continental climate contribute to the wines' unique flavour profile, which is characterised by bright acidity and intense aromas. In addition to Verdejo, Rueda also produces wines from Sauvignon Blanc and Viura grapes. So, grab a glass of Rueda and enjoy the flavours of this vibrant and dynamic region!
