Details
A classically made blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from WA. Loads of ripe blue fruit with a splash of cassis, vanilla bean and some gentle eucalypt. The mid palate is soft, with a lash of grainy tannin on the finish. It's gravelly, oaky and lush, and should keep well for years to come.

Origin: It’s believed that the first wines made were in the Medoc region, in the west of France. Mainly Grown In: France leads the way here, with Bordeaux the big one. Also California, South Australia, central and northern Italy, plus Argentina. Key Facts: Cabernet Sauvignon is truly a globetrotter. Having it’s home in Bordeaux certainly helped it’s rapid expansion, as the Bordelaise (those coming from Bordeaux) are excellent marketers of their own product! Now found in almost all wine-producing countries of the world, Cab Sav is traditionally full-bodied, loaded with plenty of dark fruit (think blueberry and blackberry) and backed up by a zing of herbal/grassy kind of flavours. It’s also known for its strong backbone of tannin – that furry, drying sensation you sometimes get with red wines. Cabernet has plenty of it, but is still a smooth talker regardless. Fun Fact: You've probably met Cabernet Sauvignon's half-sister.. Merlot! If not... then it's probably time for a family reunion!

Pairing guide
Silky, fruity, and bursting with character, we just can’t get enough of this delicious Merlot from Alkoomi. It’s a naturally food-friendly wine, and one which is going to pair brilliantly with all your favourite meaty stews and casseroles. We also love this red beauty with grilled or roast chicken, meat served with red fruit sauces, and pork loin dishes, too. It’s brilliant with blue cheese (especially gorgonzola), garlic mushrooms, and a nice rare steak. Yum!

Frankland River, Australia
Frankland River is one of five sub-regions in Great Southern, Western Australia. The Great Southern as the name suggests is extremely large, spread out over 100 km north to south and 150 km east to west. Frankland River is located in the north-west part of Great Southern and is known for high quality Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling as well as recent movement towards Grenache, Tempranillo and other Mediterranean varieties. The region is relatively recent with plantings dating back to 1967 and by the 1980s wineries like Alkoomi and Frankland Estate were well established.
