Details
Adelina's super-savoury Rosato is blend of Dolcetto and Barbera taken from the Bowe-Lees-Loveys Vineyard at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. It spends some time in wood, adding to the textural complexity, and is wonderfully sweet-sour, showing tangy pink grapefruit, raspberry and strawberry. Very nice.
Col McBryde and his partner Jennie Gardiner, winemakers and owners of Adelina (as well as another of our favourite labels, Some Young Punks), are a switched-on wine power couple. As well as making great wines on the regular, they're always looking out for quality fruit that they can turn into a future release. Having worked with small batches of Chardonnay for a number of years, although, until now, nothing had quite made the grade to be released under the Adelina label. Finally, they've found a first-rate grower (with the right postcode) that they can work with and thus the first Adelina Chardonnay has been born! Although based in the Clare Valley, set amongst one of the most historically relevant winery and vineyards in Australia, they also work with a very small group of growers in Clare and the Adelaide Hills whom grow fruit for their non-estate wines. The winery is rustic in a sense of mod-cons and mechanisation, where the most elaborate piece of equipment would be the coffee machine! Not a fan of the 'obvious' style of Australian Shiraz which took off in the 90s, McBryde’s aim is to produce wines that are not immediately accessible, but instead seductive....you need to hunt for the different flavours and then savour in them. His skills are impressive, as are the entire range of wines. Great stuff.

Pairing guide
Adelina never fails to impress with its inventive use of Italian grape varietals, and this Old World-inspired rosato is absolutely no exception. The perfect sunny day-drinking wine, it’s ideal for pairing with truffle-infused charcuterie, ham hock and bacon dishes, and with dishes which make great use of olives, anchovies, and other punchy Mediterranean flavours. We love this wine with a cheesy frittata, and it’s also a delicious pairing for rare duck breast, turkey salads, oily fish like sardines, and salty cod cakes.

Wine region

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
